Globalization + Cultural Diffusion

Flora Lau 10/21/19 Globalization + Cultural Diffusion              Today I learned more about globalization and cultural diffusion. Cultural diffusion is the process of spreading cultural traits from one region to another. Which basically means a trend or lifestyle that originated from a place gets moved or migrated to another place. There are also five major types of cultural diffusion.               The first type of cultural diffusion is expansion diffusion. The second kind of diffusion is hierarchical diffusion which is selective. The third type is stimulus diffusion which is adaptive which means an idea goes, but adapts to fit with the culture around them. The fourth is relocation diffusion. Lastly, contagious diffusion which everyone gets.

The Five Themes of Geography 2

Flora Lau 10/7/19 The Five Themes of Geography 2                Today I learned the definitions of region, formal region, functional region, and vernacular region. A region is a collection of places. It has a universal or shared characteristic that can be physical or human. A place is a singular location. Formal region is an area that is defined by clear delineated boundaries. Examples for formal regions are countries, cities, and counties. Functional region is an area where a newspaper circulates which is the city and the surrounding areas that have the same services. Vernacular region is a perceptional region which mean it's the way we see it.                 The three different types of regions are formal, functional, and vernacular. Formal region is an area that is defined by clear delineated boundaries. A functional region is a nodal region, an area where a newspaper circulates, and the surrounding areas that have the same services. A vernacular region is the perceptio

The Five Themes of Geography 1

Flora Lau 10/2/19 The 5 Themes of Geography 1               For the 1650 Map, I think Place E would be the best because it is near a water source, good farmland, and has mountains around for protection. For the 1830 map, Place A would be a good place to put a settlement because there is a waterfall nearby which would be perfect for a water wheel to filter the fresh water from the river. For the 1850 map, I recommend Place C for a settlement because there is good farmland nearby and coal next to them. Location-is defined as a particular place or position Place- refers to the physical and human characteristics and aspects of a location Toponym-is the name of a place Site- the physical characteristics of a place Situation- is the relative location to a location Geographers use toponyms, sites, and situations to describe location.
