The Five Themes of Geography 2
Today I learned the definitions of region, formal region, functional region, and vernacular region. A region is a collection of places. It has a universal or shared characteristic that can be physical or human. A place is a singular location. Formal region is an area that is defined by clear delineated boundaries. Examples for formal regions are countries, cities, and counties. Functional region is an area where a newspaper circulates which is the city and the surrounding areas that have the same services. Vernacular region is a perceptional region which mean it's the way we see it.

The three different types of regions are formal, functional, and vernacular. Formal region is an area that is defined by clear delineated boundaries. A functional region is a nodal region, an area where a newspaper circulates, and the surrounding areas that have the same services. A vernacular region is the perceptional (the way we see it) region.
